The Need Of The Hour: Defining Moments, Focused Ministry 

William Wallace, one of the most focused leaders in history, lived a life determined to bring freedom to his Scottish countrymen. His passion and vision, revealed in the historical movie Braveheart that documented his life, was the result of a personal story filled with moments of pain and victory. His triumphant call of freedom still echoes throughout his countryside.

The apostle Paul was a determined believer. His vision of taking the Gospel down the roads that led to Rome was strewn with obstacles and challenges. Each of these trials could have sidetracked his efforts. Paul remained focused to the end (Philippians 3:12-14).

All believers can point to critical incidents in which God taught them important lessons and insights. All of these moments are part of God's shaping their life for a unique contribution in the expansion of His kingdom.

Churches also reach defining moments—moments when the leaders confront the challenges of living out the vision, responding in obedience to the call of the King. Vision requires risk and surrender. Too often leaders shrink back from changing structures.

The power of a focused ministry comes from the power of greater clarity and focus in the lives of its leaders. In Nehemiah 2:17-18, Nehemiah cried out to his people, " ‘Come, let us rebuild that wall...' They replied, 'Let us start rebuilding.' So they began this good work."
