In My Shoes: TEACHERS OF CULINARY ART

The Apostle Paul, in writing to the church in Ephesus said, "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service..."

By His grace, He also prepared some to be teachers of culinary art for His glory. Such is the case with Michael and Vashti LaBar, with us at Little Texas in February for the second time. Our great need could not be fulfilled with the advent of preachers or apostles, as inspiring as that has been. No, we needed someone uniquely qualified and handcrafted by the Master to come download a treasure trove of experience in preparing fine cuisine. Michael and Vashti answered the call, staying with us two weeks. During this time they taught, discipled, modeled, and instructed our people in the creation of fascinating and delicious foods. Michael showed our young, dedicated workers how to layer flavors' and improve plate presentation. More importantly, Michael and Vashti labored alongside our kids, displaying a kind of humility that is sadly lacking among those in any high position in Romania.

We ended their visit with a "California Night," organized in our Alamo Banquet Room. The place looked like Laguna Beach with sand filled plastic pales and play shovels, beach towels, the California flag, and Mighty Ducks jersey—expertly displayed by Vashti. We prepared a PowerPoint presentation that night on the history, beauty and personalities that make up California's rich heritage, past and present. Our guests that evening were given a glimpse of what the Lord can do in and through His people when we strive for excellence in His Name.

This raising the culinary bar builds a bridge into the lives of the power brokers in lasi and beyond. Furthermore, it
reflects a different facet of Christianity to our whole crew. One more thing: it increases our revenue and, thus, profits available for ministry.
