Clair, my dear friend and neighbor, had been at our house and played with the kids for about three hours. She even helped tuck them in, and then the two of us had dinner. As we sat down to eat, she announced that, on our recommendation, she and her boyfriend Scott had rented The Passion of the Christ. I was shocked and overjoyed at the same time.
For the next three and a half hours, we sat there and I answered her questions.
"How do you really know it's true?"
"Jesus really existed?"
"How and why do you read the Bible?"
As a counselor for cancer patients and their families, she wanted to understand what people grab onto during their darkest and most fearful times. She has told me often that everyone needs something to cling on to. In her work environment, it's especially important. She had begun wondering what that was all about. What was she going to cling to?
"There is something different about how you live your life, something different about your faith," Clair said. God is working and moving amazingly in her life. Clair has yet to discover the One whom we cling to... and what makes our faith so different.
