Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Psalm 127:1
With 127 million people, Japan is the world's tenth most populous nation. Life expectancy ranks highest in the world, yet the birth rate is very low. Abortions nearly equal the number of live births, and Japan's suicide rate is double that of the U.S.
Economic stagnation in the 1990's helped create a generation of millions of "freeters" (constantly moving between part-time jobs), "NEETs" (not engaged in employment, education or training), and "hikikomori" (extreme isolation from society). Their large-scale rejection of traditional employment, lifestyles, and interpersonal relationships threatens to tear apart the social fabric of Japan, especially as their parents age and become less able to provide for their needs.
Though wary of "religion," many Japanese express interest in the supernatural. While only 1 out of 500 people regularly attends one of the nation's 8,000 Protestant churches, a Gallup survey reveals that 6-8% of the population remain open to the Christian faith.
Through coaching, training, networking and community building, the CRM Japan team has been developing leaders since 1997. Leaders who can start and strengthen both traditional churches and newer forms of church that will touch more people at more levels of Japanese society with the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
