For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21
Today is Tuesday, so this morning at 8:00 I will join the team for InnerCHANGE prayer. Each of the InnerCHANGE teams gathers to pray sometime each Tuesday to pray for each other. Despite being spread on four continents, this can serve as an expression of our corporate life.
After prayer we usually spend some time catching up with each other. But today prayer is interrupted by “Jason,” a 13 year old neighbor who has to go to juvenile court. Since no one in his family can take him (or no one is willing to take him) he comes to John and Jude’s apartment for help.
10:00am I join John TW as he spins a show on a web based radio station. Today John mixes hip hop beats with a reading of Matthew 6 – the theme is consumption. Next week is my turn to contribute to the show.
12:30pm John and I have a “mentoring lunch” at Mama’s Hot tamales, a local spot across from Mac Arthur Park.
2:00pm After lunch, we cross Alvarado to the InnerCHANGE office. We spend some time in the office doing some of the administrative tasks that we often don’t have time for.
4:00pm We get together with some middle school boys, 12 and 13 years old. We talk (while we create collages) about the consequences of choosing the gang life. I still cannot believe that kids this age need to think about these things and make these critical choices…
5:30pm Dinner Break
8:00pm Miguel
and Lisa come by, both are in Community College. They come by to visit,
but also share that they will be needing
help
with their
math homework.
We suggest they visit Paul at the Cambria building during
the Monday night tutoring.
10:00 Joe calls – worried for his life – on Saturday a close
friend of his was killed right on the sidewalk in front of his apartment
building.
