The Los Angeles InnerCHANGE team

Elizabeth Corey, “Zib,” is in her second year with InnerCHANGE. She has lived in Philadelphia, Western Canada, and upstate New York, but loves being in LA! Elizabeth’s passion for urban ministry began early, as her dad was a pastor of an inner-city church in Philadelphia. Her heart for ministry among the poor was developed further through experiences in Washington D.C. and Cuba. During her time in LA, she has enjoyed working with local artists, helping kids with their homework, and being involved with justice issues for immigrants. Elizabeth is currently involved with an economic collective, getting to know new neighbors, and is working on her Spanish.

Jonathan McCracken is working in a variety of ministry areas, including a book collective which is a part of a wider Kingdom oriented economic initiative.  He has helped to inspire people to become a part of the book collective, mentoring them in the nuts and bolts of running an online book business.

Jonathan is serving as an assistant part-time pastor at New City Church.  This downtown church has an exciting vision of being a multi-cultural, multi-socioeconomic church.  He has a passion for integrating his InnerCHANGE ministry and his New City ministry, an example being the development of a New City community group/bible study being led by Jonathan in his apartment.  Several young adults from the Westlake neighborhood are now attending New City Church regularly.

Alastair and Catherine Rundle come from privileged backgrounds, but have lived among the poor their entire married life, almost 12 years.  They returned to Los Angeles and InnerCHANGE last summer after a six-year stint as missionaries with a Presbyterian congregation in Houston.  They have two children.  Zoe, 6, loves her Spanish speaking school, her brother and her densely populated new neighborhood (She’s never met a stranger.)  Peter, 4, is a superb artist, extremely determined, and has a greater attention span than most monks.  Alastair and Catherine recognize that ministry opportunities often arise simply from being a complete family in the neighborhood.  Catherine, a writer, uses her reflections to share how she encounters Christ in her life among the poor.  Alastair hungers for many to have a richer experience of God and is exploring how to develop his abilities as a spiritual director.

Lyndy Rutledge is a southern belle at heart, born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. After working with Young Life in Alabama, she moved out to the San Francisco area to work with junior high and high school students at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. It was there that she began to engage with the poor in the neighborhood next door. She first served with InnerCHANGE in the barrios of Caracas, Venezuela in 2005. Lyndy fell in love with the Hispanic community in Caracas and came back to San Francisco to try ministry among the poor stateside to see where she felt more called to long term. She served as the InnerCHANGE host in San Francisco and last summer as a summerXchange intern in New Orleans. Lyndy joined the LA team this year as a novice and is living with Zib on Bonnie Brae Street. She is seeking to befriend the indigenous Guatemalans in her apartment building and helping the team explore new territory. She has a heart for hospitality, latin culture, new adventures, and of course, the Crimson Tide.

John and Jude

John and Jude Tiersma Watson have lived and worked together in the Westlake neighborhood of LA since they married in 1995. They share their vision for reaching the next generation of urban youth through long-term mentoring and discipleship.

John is a poet and artist originally from Princeton, New Jersey who through the mentoring of Dr. and Mrs. Loder, chose a path of service with InnerCHANGE. In InnerCHANGE, John shares his passion for character development.

Jude has lived in Westlake since 1988 and believes it is one of the best neighborhoods in LA. Her favorite metaphor for life in the city is “finding flowers in the sidewalk.” Born in the Netherlands, Jude immigrated as a child with her family to the US. Before moving to LA, she worked as a missionary under YWAM in counseling and rehabilitation in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Katmandu, and Nepal. Jude is an Associate Professor of Urban Mission in the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
