[the flow of the year]
The 42-week year will break down roughly as follows:
We will begin the journey with a 2-week intensive (and fun!) Orientation that will help get you in sync with your new host culture and city, the community of sojourners you will be doing life and ministry with this year, and the mission ahead of us.
After the Orientation, we will divide the year up into six 6-week learning postures. At the end of each of these 6 weeks, there will be an off-site reflection weekend designed to help you solidify and capture what you learned before we move on to the next learning focus.
At the end of the 2nd and 4th postures, we’ll put together and offer an optional 1-week “Road Trip” for everybody who wants to get out of town and go explore the country together. Although these are optional trips, we hope everyone will plan on making them a priority for the experience, the fun, and the camaraderie. These 2 weeks also help break the year up into 3 trimesters, and provide a little R&R for the whole community.
[the weekly rhythm]
Three mornings a week, usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the community will participate in a Conversation designed to help you engage, grasp, and live out the postures of a missional leader. Sometimes these are skill focused, sometimes knowledge focused, and sometimes character focused. But they are always interactive and they are all related to becoming the leader Christ wants you to be. And there is always something to do or ponder or read after a conversation, so time is allocated for that as well.
Often times, these Conversations are preceded by a time of prayer, and they sometimes conclude with a common meal. There are typically 2-3 common meals per week, often associated with the Conversations or with other gatherings.
One day each week is set aside for the each member of the community to individually practice a spiritual discipline. On another day you will spend an hour or two, either one-on-one, or in a small cluster, with one of the staff for a time of mentoring, or soul-friending.
Most afternoons are free and you will be encouraged to engage people in your neighborhood and live out what you are learning.
One evening a week the community invites its neighbors to join them in a common meal, and a time of worship and/or spiritual reflection. These are inclusive times when you will be encouraged to bring the people you have met and invite to be part of the family.
Oh yeah, you’ll also have household and community chores just like in real life, And be prepared to spend a great deal of time with your teammates in learning and doing life together.
