A majority of the churches in the United States are struggling. In some denominations, 50-60% of their churches are in crisis! As the apostle Paul instructed Titus to “…straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town…” (Titus 1:5), CRM believes that healthy pastors and leaders are the means that God uses to produce effective churches, even in times of crisis.
God calls his own people to be agents of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:17). He also calls his people to find restoration and return to a place of intimacy with him and a place of community with other believers (cf. Jer 15:19; Lam 5:21; Zech 1:3; Heb 10:24-25).
Church revitalization is not simply a matter of doing the right things. Church revitalization recognizes the power of the Gospel to transform. Recognizing that we have been made complete in Christ apart from any effort of our own (Gal 3:3-5), repenting regularly of those things that separate us from God (Rev 2:5), putting our faith in the ongoing gifts of God’s grace that we receive when we choose to obey (cf. Matt 6:33; James 4:6), and practicing the disciplines of the Christian faith (2 Peter 1:5) work together to release the transforming power of the Gospel and lead us into true life-altering worship.
