The Republic of South Africa, located at the tip of the African Continent, is known as the Rainbow Nation due to its cultural diversity and 11 official languages. South Africa's history is rich in events that are both magnificent and tragic. It is a country embarking on a new and sometimes unsteady path of racial integration after almost 30 years of official apartheid.
Our NieuCommunities team operates out of the Pangani Guest House located just north of Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. Pretoria is the major university and cultural center. It boasts the largest number of museums countrywide, and is located within close proximity to many of the country's largest wildlife reserves.
The historical homestead of Pangani, built at the turn of the century, is situated in a working-class neighborhood. The century old stone Guest House is nestled in an oasis-like garden just steps from a lazy stone veranda. The name Pangani was given to the home almost a hundred years ago and is derived from the Swahili word that means, "to gather together." With the advent of NieuCommunities, it is realizing the full meaning of its name as participants live right on the grounds doing life and ministry together, meanwhile sharing in the responsibility of care and maintenance to their home.
