Providing Family and Community Care

For most questions about ministry, marriage, child-rearing and parenting, or developmental issues, there is an SDCTeam member with expertise available to provide help or to assist you in finding suitable care. 

One of the new dimensions of the Staff Development and Care Team is the committee headed by Patty Metcalf which focuses specifically on the unique needs of family and women on the mission field.  While this team will be developing a vision for this area in 2007, some of the elements include the following:

WHAT KIND OF HELP ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

  • Individual and Family care —
  • Marriage Enrichment—At the European conference in August of 2007, SDCT will be working closely with conference leaders to develop a conference with a main focus on the unique marital challenges of those on the mission field.  This will include teaching, small group sharing and exercises for couples to do on their own.  For suggestions or questions about the European conference, contact Amy Galloway at crmleaders.org
  • Missionary Kid Issues--CRM is blessed to have a number of staff with Third Culture backgrounds.  Parents wanting to explore the implications of cross-cultural living on their children, and/or parenting issues, may contact Karen Kilbourney-Young at crmleaders.org or Steve Hoke at crmleaders.org
  • C'havala Crawley is a former MK from Hong Kong serving a one-year apprenticeship with SDCT. One main area of focus will be to gather information about the needs of our CRM children. She hopes to begin creating a structure where MK's can network together for support. If you have suggestions or concerns about MK issues, feel free to contact C'havala at crmleaders.org

  • Women’s Issues:  The SDCTeam is planning to increase opportunities for growth and development of women.  To this end, we are planning the following: 
    • Women's retreats
    • Seminars on topics of special interest to women at all CRM conferences
    • Training modules uniquely designed for women
    • Focus groups aimed at expanding the leadership opportunities for women in CRM

For longer-term care and counseling for individuals or family matters, we refer staff to a Christian residential center specializing in missionary care and cross-cultural issues. LinkCARE Center is located in Fresno, CA.
