Communitas is an order of missionaries who live in countercultural communities in cross-cultural neighborhoods. They live the good news of Jesus in a growing post-Christian culture. Spend 6 to 8 months in New Orleans as a Communitas Explorer, participating in community life and learning to live a life on mission.
Communitas has several communities in New Orleans. Faubourg Marigny is a bohemian community of cultural creatives. Faubourg Freret is home to a mix of multi-ethnic individuals who are at risk economically. Audubon is the university town and a neighborhood of educated individuals.
Impact
- Participate in New Orleans’ continued recovery
- Incarnate Christ to people who don’t yet thirst for Him
- Wrestle through the angst you feel over consumerism and materialism
- Discover who God created you to be and the contribution He has given you
What it looks like
- Participate in community mission dinners
- Advocate for the poor through community development
- Engage people for Christ through your daily rhythms (i.e. sports)
- Experience spiritual formation
- Be involved in a shared life centered around spiritual rhythms, simplicity, and personal calling
