Newminster Omaha has positioned itself in an historic Omaha neighborhood called Gifford Park. Just a five-minute drive (or less) from downtown Omaha, the Henry Doorly Zoo, Creighton University, and the nation’s “greenest” restaurant The Grey Plume, we are positioned in the cultural heart of the city.

Gifford Park is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Omaha, both racially and economically. It has a high immigrant population with recent influxes of refugees from Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia and Burma. With three major universities nearby, there is a large college population. Also, 58% of the population is under the age of 35, making it a fertile ground for interacting with the generation most likely to have left the church or have little to no experience in a local church.

Gifford Park is a place of collision. Here the predominantly African American North Omaha collides with the predominantly Latin American South Omaha; refugee populations from all over the globe collide with long time white residents; poverty-stricken neighbors live next to posh renovated apartments and condos; college students and frat houses rest in the shadow of some of Omaha’s oldest homes and senior residents; hundred-year-old dying traditional churches collide with postmodern hipster mentalities.

Our Ministry

Ministry opportunities seem endless in Omaha:

  • Because of the diversity, there is great opportunity for a church planting movement in Omaha.
  • Because a great number of local churches are struggling, there is great opportunity for investing in local church leaders.
  • Because of the high population of young adults, there is great opportunity for apprenticing young missional leaders.
  • Because of the diversity of ministry needs, there is great opportunity for apprentices to gain a broad perspective of the mission of God and where they fit.
  • Because of the proximity of so much of what the city has to offer, there is great opportunity for a community to incarnate and be a light simply by its presence.

This is why we feel called to start Newminster Omaha. Our vision is big. We want to see the world reached and the Kingdom of God come by investing in apostolic leaders who will be sent out, work faithfully, and multiply themselves. We want to catalyze church planting movements in Omaha and the rest of the United States. We want to walk beside current local church leaders, inspiring them and coaching them into what could be. We want to love our neighbors, heal the sick, cast out demons and raise the dead.

In the time of American westward expansion, Omaha was nicknamed “The Gateway to the West”. We believe Omaha is once again positioned to be a gateway for the re-expansion of the Church in America.
